Raymond Victor Morua III appears in four new Public Service Announcements, released today, as part of his sentencing. Congresswoman Lois Capps said she has not seen the PSA’s yet but “any reminders of the consequences of drinking and driving is a benefit to our community, especially around the holidays.”
Several more PSA videos are set to be released in February. In these Public Service Announcements, Morua expresses remorse and regret for killing Mallory Dies.
Last December, Morua drove drunk and hit Dies while she crossed the street. She died five days later. A judge sentenced Morua to 20 years to life. Part of the sentence included the promise from Morua to film several PSA’s on the dangers of drinking and driving.
Matt Shuster of TV Santa Barbara, produced the commercials. “It was tough. His demeanor actually surprised me. He was very remorseful and very emotional,” said Shuster.
Morua’s Public Service Announcements were made for the Vow4Mal Foundation aimed at preventing future DUI tragedies. Mallory’s mother also appears in the commercials.
The family is inviting the public to gather at the scene of the accident on Anacapa and Haley streets on Saturday December 6th at 4 p.m. to remember Mallory’s life.
