In 2006 R. Lindley DeVecchio, his fourth FBI “control” agent, was indicted by the Brooklyn D.A. on 4 counts of murder conspiracy for his alleged role in four of Scarpa Sr.’s murders including the point- blank shooting of beautiful Mary Bari and the slaying of Joseph “Joe Brewster” DeDomenico, whom Scarpa Sr. had previously regarded as his “second son.” After a two-week trial in Brooklyn Supreme Court, the case was abruptly dismissed after the release of recorded interviews suggesting that Linda Schiro, Scarpa Sr.’s gumar and common-law wife had lied on the stand.
