    From Bellevue Avenue to “The Mighty Fifth” in Newport, RI it’s always St. Patrick’s Day

    Peter Lance March 17th, 2024 Dedicated to Timmy “The Woodhooker” Sullivan and his sister Julia: my tribute to The Irish of Newport, a tribe, I’ve been lucky enough to belong to.

    Many years ago, when I reconnected with my family in Cork, obtaining Irish Citizenship and the curiously colored maroon passport of The Irish Republic, I stood in our family’s pub (Causkeys) and lifted “a few jars,” to celebrate.

    At that time, my beloved cousin Teresa handed me an old yellowed book entitled: “The Genealogy of The Eyeries Parish.” It listed generations of local families from the Beara Peninsula going back 200 years.

    As I turned the pages, I was thrilled to learn that my great grandmother was born Johanna O’Sullivan. You’ll understand just how proud that made me feel if you read CHAPTERS 19 + 20 from HOMICIDE AT ROUGH POINT
