and America&#8217;s Response.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/peterlance.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Screen-Shot-2015-01-10-at-5.02.43-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-5693\" title=\"Screen Shot 2015-01-10 at 5.02.43 PM\" src=\"http:\/\/peterlance.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Screen-Shot-2015-01-10-at-5.02.43-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterlance.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Screen-Shot-2015-01-10-at-5.02.43-PM.png 258w, https:\/\/peterlance.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Screen-Shot-2015-01-10-at-5.02.43-PM-239x300.png 239w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><\/a>Later, in 2010, building on the work done by Paul and my own independent \u00a0research<strong> <a title=\"Fort Hood two parter\" href=\"http:\/\/peterlance.com\/wordpress\/?s=Hasan&amp;x=-1072&amp;y=-41\">I wrote two pieces<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong> for <a title=\"Gotham City pl 2012\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gothamcityinsider.com\/2010\/08\/peter-lance-is-back.html\"><strong>Gotham City Insider<\/strong><\/a> which discussed al-Awlaki in the context of the Fort Hood Massacre.<\/p>\n<p>Like Cherif Kouchai, who confessed just prior to his death in Paris, that he&#8217;d been influenced by al-Awlaki,<strong><a title=\"Nidal Malik Hasan\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nidal_Malik_Hasan\"> Major Nidal Malik Hasan<\/a>, <\/strong>the convicted Fort Hood shooter, also interfaced with the Yemeni-based cleric.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Awlaki, a one-man jihadi recruiting network, also met directly with two of the 9\/11 hijackers <a title=\"SD Times Union\" href=\"http:\/\/www.utsandiego.com\/news\/2015\/jan\/09\/anwar-alawlaki-paris-attack-san-diego-link\/\">in San Diego.<\/a>\u00a0And astonishingly\u00a0the bearded cleric with the spectacles and slight build\u00a0was also linked to<a title=\"Underwear\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Umar_Farouk_Abdulmutallab\">\u00a0<\/a><strong><a title=\"Underwear\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Umar_Farouk_Abdulmutallab\">Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>the so-called \u201cunderwear bomber,\u201d\u00a0<strong><a title=\"London Subway\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/7_July_2005_London_bombings\">the 2005 London subway bombings<\/a>,<\/strong> a <strong><a title=\"Toronto terror cell\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2006_Ontario_terrorism_plot\">terror cell<\/a><\/strong> exposed in Ontario Canada in 2006, and<strong> <a title=\"Times Square\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Faisal_Shahzad\">Faisal Shahzad,<\/a><\/strong> whose plot to explode an IED in Times Square failed in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>At the time I wrote the two pieces, the U.S. Justice Department had decided to try <strong>Khalid Shaikh Mohammed (KSM<\/strong>) the accused &#8220;9\/11 mastermind&#8221;<a title=\"CNN KSM\" href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2009\/CRIME\/11\/13\/khalid.sheikh.mohammed\/index.html?eref=onion\"> in New York City.<\/a>\u00a0But opposition from many conservative groups caused <a title=\"KSM no NYC trial\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/crime\/trial-9-11-mastermind-khalid-sheikh-mohammed-won-happen-new-york-city-official-article-1.457533\">the DOJ to back down<\/a> and KSM is still being held at the <strong><a title=\"Guantanamo\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guantanamo_Bay_detention_camp\">Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This is an excerpt from <a title=\"Part Two Hasan\" href=\"http:\/\/peterlance.com\/wordpress\/?p=279\">Part Two<\/a> of my series:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We now know that in May, 2001 Maj. Hasan held his mother\u2019s funeral at a Falls Church Virginia mosque where al-Awalki had been cleric. In one of the emails, monitored by the FBI six months before the Fort Hood massacre, Maj. Hasan told al Awlaki \u201cI can\u2019t wait to join you\u201d in the afterlife.<\/p>\n<div><strong>Two degrees of separation between Maj. Hasan and KSM<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In 2004 U.S. News reported that post\u00a0<a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/21\">9\/11<\/a>, German authorities found the phone number of al Awlaki\u2019s Dar al Hijrah mosque in the apartment of Ramzi Binalshibh, Khalid Shaikh\u2019s Number Two, who will also go on trial in New York.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>While no evidence has surfaced that al -Awlaki ever met KSM, the link between the Fairfax mosque and Ramzi Binalshibh makes for two degrees of separation between the\u00a0<a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/22\">9\/11<\/a>\u00a0\u201cexecutive director,\u201d Khalid Shaikh and the fanatical U.S. Army psychiatrist who allegedly left 13 dead and 30 wounded at Fort Hood.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>There\u2019s also a disturbing parallel between the FBI\u2019s failure to detect Ali Mohamed as a threat to U.S. security and the Bureau\u2019s lapses in monitoring Maj. Hasan.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Weekly Standard quoted the FBI as admitting that Hasan came to their attention \u201cin December 2008\u201d and that the Joint Terrorism Task Force \u201creviewed \u2026 communications between\u2026Hasan and (al-Awlaki) and deemed them \u201cconsistent with research being conducted by Maj. Hasan\u2026\u201d Contrast that with the London Telegraph\u2019s report: in one outburst at Walter Reed Army Hospital, Hasan declared that non-believers should be beheaded and \u201chave boiling oil poured down their throats;\u201d hardly the view of a serious medical researcher.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As documented in Part I, al Qaeda&#8217;s master spy Ali Mohamed not only exhibited openly hostile jihadist views while serving as an E5 sergeant at the JFK Special Warfare Center at Fort Bragg, the Army even used him to make a training video in which he articulated his radical Islamic beliefs. 20 years ago an actual agent of al Qaeda had burrowed into a highly secure Army facility and after he was discovered and arrested a decade later, the Army didn\u2019t seem to learn its lesson.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>A revelation or another cover up?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The continuing Hasan investigation will shed new light on whether the Bureau has sufficiently reformed in the years since the\u00a0<a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/23\">9\/11<\/a>. The question is, will federal prosecutors have the courage to come clean on years of negligence by the two \u201cBin Laden offices of origin\u201d and put the man who snookered them on the stand as the chief witness against KSM?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Ali Mohamed remains the greatest enigma in the war on terror. Locked away somewhere in custodial witness protection there are seals upon seals on his case. Having skirted the fate that awaits KSM, can the convicted spy now be persuaded to testify about what he knows of the\u00a0<a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/24\">9\/11<\/a>\u00a0plot and Khalid Shaikh\u2019s role in it?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>If he does, he could be to terrorism what Sammy \u201cthe bull\u201d Gravano was to organized crime \u2013 the most lethal witness ever against the\u00a0<a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/25\">9\/11<\/a>\u00a0\u201cexecutive director.\u201d A full, unexpurgated vetting of FBI\/DOJ blunders at that trial could be the kind of kick in the ass the Bureau needs to finally begin its reform.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>There\u2019s little time to lose.
